Vehicle Description 1962 Impala Convertible 409 4 speed.
.
This is a frame off restored car done a few years back.
I don't have information on the restoration or when it was restored.
I was told the person who owned and restored the car, passed away when it was almost done.
I assume this was not an original 409 car and it has a non numbers matching engine.
I have no documentation on the car and you would be buying what you see just as I did.
I wanted to get all that said before I started with the details of the car.
I bought this car a last year and I love it.
It is a fantastic car that we really enjoy and it was bought to keep.
Recently a friend offered me the chance to buy a 63 Corvette Coupe that I have personal attachments to.
I can't afford both so the tough choice is being made to sell the Impala which is a much nicer car than the Corvette, but the personal attachment to the Corvette is what the decision is based on.
When the Impala was restored there was a lot of time and attention to detail put into it to make it an extremely nice car.
This car definitely left the factory as a 1962 convertible Impala.
Everything is unknown but we can assume a few things.
I looked at the front seat brackets and they are original brackets welded to the floor as the factory did for bucket seats.
Also, the grab handle hole in the dash looks like a clean, punched hole like the factory did.
My assumption is it was an original SS Convertible but most likely a small block car.
Of course a documented 409 Convertible would be in a much higher price bracket than this car.
I can tell you that the shows I have brought this to, and the people that have seen it think it's a great car and the number matching questions have never come up.
It's just not important to most of us.
The underside of the body is very clean, no rust and is done in a red oxide like it left the factory.
The frame is stock and painted black.
Stock 3.
73 geared rear end with correct P on the case for Positraction.
The rear springs have cheap coil spring collapsers on them which didn't matter to me as I was going to lower the car.
.
The previous owner never told me though so that part did bother me which is why I am telling you.
Supposedly a new (looks new) Richmind Super T10 4 speed at the time of restoration.
Rebuilt front end, very clean, with the addition of disc brakes.
The body is very straight and the paint is very nice.
Interior is beautiful and most everything works as it should.
The exceptions being the horn doesn't work correctly, and the radio turns on and and makes noise but it doesn't pick up stations well.
The car drives well and of course a 409 4speed is just a pleasure to drive.
The person I bought it from added the Classic Auto Air heat & air conditioning kit right before I bought it.
Also at the same time he did the aluminum radiator & electric fans.
I don't care for any of that.
My plan was for a new, stock correct copper/brass radiator, and put back the stock fan shroud, fan and pulleys which I have and are included with the car.
Everything removed was very nice.
I was also going to remove the A/C as well because I don't care for the looks.
I have the stock heater box and GM hoses that were removed when the Classic Auto Air kit was added last year.
Everything else in the engine compartment is so nice looking that the aluminum radiator and A/C stand out as to modern to me.
The convertible top works as it should and is a very nice hartz cloth.
The chrome and bright work is also very nice.
The paint has a few small blemishes that after I owned it, I noticed.
Because this car was restored some years ago, what you see is what you get, meaning the paint won't be shrinking, or or doing anything else bad that may appear latet on from a freshly painted/restored car.
No surprises.
Here are some details.
