Job Summary:
Markel Corporation has opportunity on the Enterprise Pricing Team to develop and configure Pricing models for Property & Casualty Insurance and Reinsurance products.
Purpose: The Senior Developer creates the overall structure and workflow of an insurance pricing model and is responsible for leading and/or handling the development of one to multiple components. The Senior Developer contributes to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of business applications by providing specialized technical and business knowledge to the team. Under the guidance of a Team Lead or Manager, collaborates with Business Analysts, key stakeholders, other IT professionals to define detailed customer requirements and system interfaces, assess available technology, and develop and present technologies. Recommends and supports technical coding standards and practices. Stays current on emerging technologies.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Participate in complete projects through the entire SDLC of collecting requirements, recommending and designing a solution, creating project plans with realistic estimates, writing Stored Procedures, Building Reports, Testing and Deploying relevant code while adhering to departmental standards, policies and procedures.
Create and maintain pricing model configurations through SQL script definitions or configuration tools based upon product requirements.
Implement math and statistical calculations into product calculation rules.
Work closely with internal and external teams to troubleshoot issues and find suitable technical solutions both during and outside of traditional work hours.
Adapts existing methods and procedures to create possible alternative solutions to moderately complex problems.
Implements and maintains the necessary controls and procedures to cost-effectively protect information systems assets from intentional or inadvertent modification, disclosure, or destruction. Provides guidance and direction for the protection of information systems assets to other areas as needed.

Strong SQL Server skills preferred.
Excel / VBA scripting skills helpful.
Software knowledge base should include SQL Server,.Net, XML, C#.
Education:
Advanced college degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Business or related work experience/certification.
5+ years of relevant general Information Technology experience required or experience in the Insurance Industry.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
